Malaysia is at the forefront of a $485m infrastructure fund to forge closer transportation and logistics services between members of the ASEAN community.

En su discurso inaugural del 28 de julio, el Presidente Humala anunció que se tomarían todas las medidas necesarias para asegurar que el Perú tuviera su propia línea aérea de bandera y para “promover una mayor apertura y competitividad en el sector de aviación comercial”. El principal objetivo de Humala es hacer los viajes aéreos más accesibles para el peruano promedio bajando los costos y ampliando el transporte hacia el interior del país.

The RAK Investment Authority (RAKIA) licenced 800 new companies in the first eight months of 2011, a 31% increase from the same period last year, according to Alex Thomas, RAKIA’s general manager of marketing. Most of the new licences were for manufacturing firms, and the number of trading and transport licenses was also up, Thomas said.

The Philippines government has announced plans to step up spending on transport infrastructure, with upgrades to existing ports and the development of new maritime cargo handling facilities to be given priority.

Thailand will have to move quickly to meet requirements for economic integration with ASEAN, set for 2015, with transport policy one of the key issues that will have to be addressed in the lead-up to the single market.

Given the importance of Ghana’s road infrastructure to the country’s ongoing economic development, the government has been pouring extensive resources towards expanding motorway networks and connectivity. A major hurdle, however, is the ability of the country to fund and finance ongoing maintenance.
