  • Why does OBG focus on smaller emerging markets?

OBG believes that over the next 10-20 years the best investment returns will be found in emerging markets. Our focus is on non-BRIC countries because there tends to be less information on the opportunities and risks in these high-growth markets. OBG seeks to provide a more nuanced perspective on how countries differ from each other within individual regions.

  • Where else can I read the report?

    •         Users of either Thomson Reuter’s Eikon Terminal or the Bloomberg Professional service can now access Oxford Business Group’s full range of research on emerging economies.
    •         You may search for Oxford Business Group on the Eikon Terminal or run OBGR<GO> on the Bloomberg Terminal to start reading.

  • When was OBG founded and what market gap was it intended to fill?

The business was founded in 1994 by two Oxford graduates on the premise that good quality, comprehensive investment information on many countries was often hard to find. This is the publishing gap that OBG has sought to fill by putting teams of quality researchers on the ground in these countries. The extensive gathering of first-hand information gave rise to our tagline “we have a thousand sources: you need only one”.

  • How do your Reports help foreign investors and expanding international businesses?

All our Reports follow a tried and tested format. The overall country context is provided before the macroeconomic environment is explained in detail. Then banking and capital markets are reviewed, followed by each key sector of the economy in turn. Chapters set the scene for each sector, enabling readers to discern the opportunities and operating challenges. Towards the end of each Report, leading legal and accounting firms set out the regulatory frameworks of their respective fields. Finally, Reports conclude with other visitor information. We want readers to travel to the countries we cover, alert to possibilities that may be in store for their organisations, and indeed themselves.

  • What else do you offer in addition to the main annual Reports?

To provide regular updates on the countries we cover, OBG produces online Economic Updates by way of an addition to our annual Reports. (These are available to our global subscribers online and via email; they are a free service for which you can register on this site.)

OBG also has a Consultancy wing for those who want to tap our expertise further. This division produces detailed client-specific intelligence on various sectors of the economy, including real estate and banking. From its Dubai base, the Consultancy team has conducted a vast array of projects since its inception in 2005, ranging from business briefings through to full-blown development feasibility studies where we may be liaising with host governments on specific investment projects on behalf of foreign investors, reviewing project sites, etc.

  • How do you ensure the accuracy of your research?

At a time when many news organisations are closing field offices and increasingly relying on internet research, OBG is committed to getting first-hand information from sources in each country. OBG therefore puts experienced teams of researchers on the ground to gather as much statistical information as possible as well as to conduct over 200 interviews and dialogues with leading national opinion formers and experts for each Report. This gives the company a unique edge in terms of accuracy and coverage.

A further review process, which sees every article sent out to representatives of both the public and private sectors, ensures that the facts and figures published in the Report are checked thoroughly.

  • How does OBG choose its countries?

Our expertise is providing market intelligence about growth economies around the world. The markets we cover are identified as “the yellow slice of the pie” and they are growing faster than any other major group of countries. All of these countries are:

    •         economies of great interest to investors
    •         stable economies
    •         open to free trade and
    •         economies with growing GDPs

  • Are your Reports just for business people?

They are for anyone looking for opportunities, whether for themselves, their organisations, their children or the people they govern. New forms of “trade” are opening up, such as medical tourism, Islamic finance and clean/green technologies, while secondary and tertiary education is internationalising, all of which is creating new opportunities.

  • Last word?

Read our Reports. The world is changing. Our Reports highlight places where it is changing rather quickly. Economic power is shifting, to the south and the east. We encourage our readers to reflect on how they can benefit from this shift.

  • I would like to offer feedback on your stances on these points. Who can I email?

All feedback is more than welcome. Please email feedback@oxfordbusinessgroup.com
