With renewed backing from international lenders, Mongolia is moving ahead with plans to broaden its logistics base and improve access to export markets, with a raft of transport infrastructure projects shifting into gear.

Recent visits to Mongolia by Chinese and Russian Presidents, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, have cemented deals that may see the mineral-rich country double trade with its neighbours and achieve a wider market reach for its exports through the overhaul and expansion of its ageing rail network.
New rail links with Russia and China and a planned overhaul of the road network underline progress in Mongolia’s plans to use the recent surge in resource growth to improve infrastructure and transport. However, there are concerns that political wrangling could delay the implementation of ambitious projects.
