The Report: Dubai 2013

Over the past four decades, Dubai has become one of the most important economic centres in the Middle East and a key destination for investors, tourists and corporations from around the world. The emirate boasts a diversified economy, an open business environment, and a multinational population and workforce, all of which have contributed to its reputation as a leading investment destination.

With its debts restructured and some paid off in the aftermath of the global economic crisis, the emirate is now working to ensure further stability through regulatory changes and new initiatives. Among these are a renewed focus on encouraging private sector investment, in part via a number of dedicated free zones. Diversification efforts also continue in earnest. With the wider economy picking up in the wake of the global downturn, construction is now following suit. Tourism is aiding in this recovery, with a number of plans in the pipeline.
