The collapse in oil prices has weighed on the Algerian economy, giving rise to twin deficits in the budget and current account. In mid-2016 the government introduced a bold medium-term plan that targets a balanced budget by 2020, alongside a new growth model with a strategy for economic development and diversification by 2030. These moves have coincided with the private sector playing a much stronger role in the economy.

 

The newly enacted Law No. 21 of 2015 governing and regulating the entry, exit and residency of expatriates – which entered into force December 16, 2016 – has been hailed as a momentous change to the prevailing labour environment in the state of Qatar, especially given the new epoch of advancement and achievement that is currently taking place...

 

The Civil and Commercial Arbitration Law No. 2 of 2017 has introduced major reforms in many areas in Qatar, and supersedes the old commercial and civil procedure code Law No. 13 of 1990.

Foreign institutions can be confident in the rule of law in Qatar, as its bicephalous legal system is accessible to international investors. Business can be conducted in various ways: by registering with the Qatar Financial Centre; incorporating a local entity under Law No. 5 of 2002; or appointing a commercial agent, branch office or representative trade office.
