Cabinet approval for Mongolia’s first satellite in late 2012 makes clear the height of the country’s ambitions for improving information and communications technology (ICT) provisions. Although a satellite launch is an ambitious objective, improving on-the-ground infrastructure will prove to be just as significant, and as challenging.

The government is working hard to keep telecoms investment from leaving the country and expand the sector’s role in domestic employment, particularly as the short-term economic outlook looks set to remain strained. As a result the Kingdom is considering the possibility of allowing a new provider to enter the mobile telephony segment.

Le taux de pénétration du téléphone portable a augmenté tellement vite ces dernières années qu’il dépasse déjà l’objectif fixé par le gouvernement dans le cadre de sa stratégie « Maroc Numeric 2013 », à savoir atteindre 34 millions d’abonnements téléphoniques (fixe et portable) d’ici l’an prochain.
The information and communications technology (ICT) regulator for Papua New Guinea (PNG) has recommended the principal fibre-optic connection be made available to all internet service providers (ISPs) for direct sale as broadband products with the aim of opening up the internet market. However, PNG Telikom says it needs more consultation with the body and that at least one more fibre-optic cable is needed to meet ICT ambitions.

Cependant, conséquence d'une concurrence toujours plus vive sur le marché de la téléphonie mobile, les prix et le revenu moyen par utilisateur sont orientés à la baisse et cela pourrait contraindre certains des petits opérateurs à cesser leurs activités, ou conduire à une consolidation.
