Kenya is set to review its incentive programme for charter flight operators, with a view to expand the scope of the scheme by adding to the list of countries covered by the policy and increasing the number of domestic destinations where the programme operates.

South African hospitality group City Lodge is set to open a new 172-room hotel in Nairobi next month. Located in the popular diplomatic quarter in the north of the city, and next door to the Two Rivers mall, one of the largest mixed-use developments in the country, the hotel aims to capture both holidaymakers and business tourists.

Stronger brand recognition, an improved security climate and higher capacity are driving growth in Kenya’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) tourism segment.

A number of new initiatives are under way to help Kenya achieve its goal of 3m tourists by 2017. In particular, the Kenyan Tourism Board (KTB) is prioritising new markets in Asia and the Middle East to diversify away from its traditional markets in Europe and North America.
