Jordan’s economy has entered 2011 in strong shape, having posted solid growth over the past 12 months and looking to do even better in the coming year, though progress has been patchy in some areas and there are more than a few potential potholes further down the road.

Jordan’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MOP) has released its Executive Development Programme (EDP) for 2011-13, with JD6bn ($8.4bn) to be distributed among 24 different economic sectors.

Jordan’s new government has committed to strengthening the economy while also reducing debt levels, though at least to some degree its success or failure will depend on the health of regional and global economies.

Jordan’s stable political environment, as well as the robust growth projections for its economy, should ensure near term investment inflows continue to fuel growth across the board; however, regional instability has been having a negative impact on the country’s tourism sector and rising refugee numbers are putting increased pressure on state services.
