Situated on the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, Ghana’s natural resource wealth and status as a stable democracy have helped make it a prominent player in the region. It is the world’s second-largest exporter of cocoa, behind Côte d’Ivoire, and one of the continent’s largest gold producers. Recently discovered reserves of oil and gas have powered the economy to double-digit growth in the past decade.

Several years of rapid hydrocarbons-fuelled growth in Ghana have put increasing pressure on its transport infrastructure, prompting a spate of expansion projects that will increase capacity for bulk and container handling, as well as specialised oilfields services. 

Air travel is growing rapidly in Ghana, as the country’s population takes to the sky and more tourists and businesspeople visit the country. Plans are under way to develop Ghana’s major airports to keep pace with growing demand, while the government is also seeking a private investor to help re-establish a national airline.
