Vietnam has risen to become one of the region’s greatest economic success stories, with its coastline, highlands, jungle and abundance of natural resources helping to bolster its rapid industrial development. Ongoing economic liberalisation and government initiatives to privatise or restructure a number of state-owned enterprises have had a major impact attracting billions of dollars of foreign investment. Central to this success has been the country’s ability to leverage its advantages; it benefits from a strategic location in South-east Asia with access to a range of developed and emerging markets, a substantial domestic consumer base, political stability, and a strong culture of entrepreneurship and work.
