Mexico came off positively after the election of left wing populist Andrés Manuel López Obrador. However much markets and the peso strengthened in the days following the election, the finer details of the president-elect’s economic plan for the following six years remain uncertain.
Although economic openness left Mexico more exposed to the global financial crisis than some of its Latin American peers, its economic profile has since allowed it to bounce back as global trade and investment flows recover, and past structural reforms begin to bear fruit.
