Faced with a significant rise in demand for health care services during the pandemic, technology has proven to be a useful tool in overcoming the capacity limits of health care facilities in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the UAE. This report looks at how each of these markets reacted to the pandemic in its initial stages, the role of digital health services in improving access to information and how technology will reshape the landscape of health care provision going forwards.
While Morocco already benefitted from relatively high internet and mobile penetration, the pandemic has accelerated digitalisation in the country thanks to the adoption of innovative solutions across a wide range of industries.
Egypt, the only country in the Middle East and North Africa not to enter recession during 2020, already exhibited a strong acceleration in digitalisation during the years leading up to the pandemic. However, as with many countries in the region, the Covid-19 outbreak has led to unprecedented and fundamental changes across all industries, largely as a result of digitalisation.
